Pragmatism is poison!

Einar Høst

Lightning talk - in English

Once a useful maxim to combat analysis paralysis and overengineering, pragmatism has turned evil. No longer a healthy attitude, not even a word, it has degenerated into a thought-terminating cliche. It is used to stifle discussion, keep inquiries at bay and to justify not thinking things through. The consequences are dire. Architectural properties like scalability and security are barrels of wine. All it takes is one spoonful of sewage, added in the name of pragmatism, to irreversibly transform them into barrels of waste.
